H1N1 immunization protocols for pharmacies
1/5/2010
The Board of Pharmacy has issued
The Board of Pharmacy has issued
guidance to pharmacists that are administering H1N1 immunizations to patients in Iowa. Pharmacists must continue to comply
with the Board’s current immunization rule
(657 – 8.33). This means pharmacists that already have an influenza
protocol in place do not need a new one for H1N1. Patients 18 and older can
receive the H1N1 immunization administered by an authorized pharmacist.
Patients under 18 years old require a prescription.
The only exception would be if the
Governor declares a ‘State of Emergency’ in which case
the emergency provisions of the Department of Public Health would be enforced
and would supersede the Board of Pharmacy’s administrative rules.
